Wooden Ship – Iron Men
The Long Beach Naval Station and Shipyard, located on Terminal Island between the cities
of Long Beach and San Pedro California and twenty three miles south of the Los Angeles
International Airport, was the home port for the Pacific Fleet of Mine Sweepers.

Mine Division 91 enters the Long Beach Harbor on 17 August 1962 past the outer sea wall
from an eight month deployment in Vietnam. Mine Division 91 units included the USS
Endurance, USS Persistent, USS Implicit, USS Conflict and the USS Dynamic. This picture
was taken from the signal bridge of the USS Dynamic showing the USS Conflict astern
followed by an unidentified unit of MineDiv 91.
The following pictures were all taken on 17 August 1962 from the USS Dynamic documenting
the reunion and celebration experienced by Long Beach Pier Nine veterans, family and loved ones.
