USS Implicit MSO-455
Wooden Ship – Iron Men

The Helm Console with wheel controlling the rudder
and the gyroscope repeater showing the Implicit's heading

The magnetic compass, shown here in the upper right, was used if the gyroscope were to fail

The Engineer's Console: individual port and starboard shaft RPM and propeller pitch controls.
Each shaft has a variable pitch and RPM gauge.

CS3 Norm Lewis, shown here on the helm, was one of the Implicit's cooks. I remember
the night he and his wife invited me and other Implicit shipmates into to their home in
Whittier California for the best manacotti I ever ate.

The best helmsman I ever knew, the late Seaman Robert Melbe on the helm. The voice tube
used to receive and answer engine and helm commands from the Bridge is on the right.
